What DTW means to me: Five minutes with Tareq Amin, CEO of Rakuten Mobile
Q. You are a regular at TM Forum’s premier event, what keeps bringing you back?
A. I value the relationship that this industry forum provides and for me massive lessons learned come through conversation and dialogue about solving big challenges in our industry.
Q. What are you hoping to get out of this year’s DTW?
A. What excites me most is being out of the house, away from virtual sessions and being able to network face-to-face and understand other companies’ challenges. I know my own challenges but I am really interested in finding out what issues others have and how they are coping with them.
Q. Have you discovered any new services or found new partners at previous events?
A. My initial contact with our leading technology partner came at a TM Forum event and this year I am keen to find a lot more start-ups.
Q. What is Rakuten Mobile’s future role in the industry?
A. Our greenfield entry gives the industry an opportunity to really leverage Rakuten Mobile as a catalyst to drive innovation and to venture into new areas that, for one reason or another, their legacy investments may be hindering. I hope that Rakuten Mobile will be perceived and accepted by the industry as one that wants not to live the status-quo.

Q. How do you feel we can unite an industry to drive growth in the digital age?
A. The industry, as a whole, faces tremendous challenges as everyone wants to differentiate themselves from only being a connectivity player. There is a unity that could come about by embracing the vision and the dream that the internet and OTT services have enormous growth potential.
